A little bragging and the REAL deal

Braeden has started kindergarten now and LOVES it!! He is such a happy little boy. :) He is so full of life. I love it!!! There is never a dull moment around him and he brings such a smile to my face. Sometimes it can be really, really REALLY hard as a single mom of a boy, but I have to say, it is worth every good, bad, ugly and in between moment. He is starting to come up with some interesting "stories". I think sometimes he is just too smart for his own good.

Last night at bedtime he was in the mood to talk and not in the mood to sleep. I was getting frustrated with him by about 9:45 and he tells me "MOMMY, come in here! I have to tell you something that is VERY important!" I said, "Braeden...this better be good! You can tell me and then I want you to go to sleep!" So, I go in there and he preceeds to tell me that he got a fishy in his fish bowl at school today. (Which means he was caught doing something good.) I asked him what he got it for and he told me he got it for sitting really still ("Like this" and he shows me) and being really quiet. I said "Braeden!!! I am so proud of you!!!" Then he tells me not to tell anyone. I asked him why stating that that was something to be proud of and I wanted to share it with others. He said "Because it wasn't me...it was some other kid...but that was good for them huh?!" (For those of you who knew me when I was at Anderson-Jen-I LOVE Junie B. Jones...but I don't know that I ever really wanted a kid like her!) LOL

For those of you who know Braeden, you know that mostly, he really still needs a good nap midday. Well, when I picked him up today from my mom's he hadn't had one yet. On the way home I was telling him how he was going straight home for a nap because he had football practice tonight. We got behind a bus. He stated, "This bus is wasting all my nap time! (all frustrated) Probably won't have time to take a nap now!" I informed him that he still was going to take a nap and laid him down at 3-ish when I got home. Needless to say at about 5:30...I had to WAKE him up so he could eat dinner, do homework, and go to football practice.

One LAST story- tonight after football, after the other kids had left and we were packing up to leave, the coach came over to Braeden and gave him a five and told him how good he did tonight. Then he looked at me and said "that's my star right there". He told me that Braeden was good at throwing, running and catching and he just had that natural talent. I told him thank you and then let him know that Braeden just turned 5 less than a month ago. He couldn't believe it. Most of those boys on his team are 6 and some are 7. That is quite an age difference!

As you can see from my stories...I am a proud mommy. However, while these stories are important and make me very proud of him, the thing that makes me most proud is that over all-he is a good boy. Respectful (mostly) and I try to raise him right. There are so many kids today that are left to raise themselves with parents that don't care. The important things in life are not sports and silly stories, etc. but raising respectful, well-behaved, well-adjusted, well-mannered, kids. Kids with integrity. While sports are fun, they will only take the majority so far. But giving my child REAL CHARACTER is what will take him the furthest in life. And while REAL CHARACTER is important to me for my son to have and display-even more important than that, and what will build REAL CHARACTER in him, is that one day he has a true relationship with his Father....Jesus Christ. That is my prayer.

So I will leave you with the words of Braeden..."When I turn 5 (already happened) I am going to ask Jesus into my heart...and then I am going to play TACKLE football!" LOL. Neither one has happened yet, but I serve a Holy God and I know eventually....both are bound to happen. :)
