Moments with a Four Year Old

Braeden and I have gotten to have several "teaching moments" discussions lately. I live for these moments!!! LOL. Recently he started playing Upward Basketball. At the first practice he was playing with a boy who wanted to play light sabers more than basketball. LOL. Which...Braeden would love to do, but he really does love to play basketball too and has been waiting for the chance to play since he was 2. I told him recently that I would like for him to watch and stay by the two little blonde boys on his team because they are a little older (Braeden is the youngest on his team) and are there to listen, learn and play basketball. After saying this, he informs me that that is fine, but he doesn't want to sit by the "dark boys" on his team. I was shocked to hear him say this, so I told him "Braeden!! Why would you say something like that?!?!??! God loves everyone and we don't treat people different just because they look different from us!!!!" He then tells me "well, I told that one boy his lips were nasty and he called me a booty butt!" See...Braeden always has nasty chapped lips. I tell him that his lips are nasty. I am guessing that this little boy's lips were chappen and Braeden felt the need to tell him. I told Braeden that that is something we can talk about with family, but to tell someone else that...that probably hurt the little boy's feelings. I said wouldn't it hurt your feelings if one of your friends said that to you??? He said yes and I drove home the point that just because someone looks different than us or is different in one way or another, we don't treat them differently.

Today we had a lesson on smoking. On the way to my best friend's baby shower he looked over in the car next to us and said, "ew-that man is smoking!". I told him that is "nasty and we don't smoke....mommy doesn't smoke, mamaw and papaw don't smoke and our friends don't smoke." He said "and I don't smoke." I said right...it's yucky! So on the way home from the baby shower...after playing upstairs with the kids there, he tells me "Mommy...my new friends upstairs...they don't smoke either." LOL. :)

Last night his friend Jovie stayed the night with us. She lives across the street and her mom watches Braeden two days a week. :) Braeden was all ready and dressed nice for the baby shower this morning and he asked her "How do I look Jovie?" Jovie said, "You look spicy!" LOL LOL LOL :)

Out of the mouth of babes.................. LOL
